World Vegan Day

On November 1, the vegan community celebrates and reflects on its successes while also highlighting the benefits of adopting a vegan lifestyle. According to the latest United Nations estimates, there are approximately 79 million vegans around the globe. And while this is great progress, we still have a way to go in encouraging others to go vegan.

This day, and every day, Inna Organic is proud to be a leading name in the vegan industry. Our line of certified-organic skincare solutions nourishes the mind, body, and soul without impacting our planet or animals.

Here’s how making the switch to a vegan lifestyle can benefit not only your own health, but the health of our environment and animals.

Benefits Of Going Vegan

It’s not an exaggeration to say that going vegan can save the world. Even making simple changes in your life, such as not eating meat a few days out of the week, can have a notable impact.

Combat World Hunger

Did you know that much of the food that’s grown throughout the world isn’t eaten by us? More than 70% of grain grown in the United States is fed to livestock.

Research has found that around 700 million tons of food that could be consumed by humans is instead fed to livestock.

In a world where food insecurity runs rampant, this is a notable finding.

Use Farmland More Effectively

Globally, more than 80% of farmland is used to raise animals. Ever-increasing overfishing and deforestation also limit the Earth’s ability to produce food.

By decreasing these activities and using more land to grow plants, we can feed more people at a lower expense to the planet.

By 2050, the global population is estimated to surpass 9.1 billion. The fact is that there’s simply not enough land to raise meat to continue to support the average American diet. And we also can’t expect our planet to cope with ever-growing pollution levels caused by maintaining the status quo.

Switching to a plant-based diet and prioritizing the growth of plants would have a notable impact on hunger levels, farmland use, and food availability.

Water Conservation

In many parts of the world, clean water is a luxury. There are hundreds of millions of people that don’t have access to clean water. Water scarcity, caused by drought and water source mismanagement, is also rampant.

Livestock consume more fresh water than many people imagine. They’re also one of the biggest polluters of waterways.

Research has found that it can take up to 200 times more water to raise a pound of beef than what’s needed to raise a pound of plants. According to the Water Education Foundation, every pound of California beef needs 2,464 gallons of water.

Other Environmental Benefits

These benefits just scratch the surface of how veganism helps the environment. Going vegan, or adopting a more vegan lifestyle, also:

  • Reduces energy consumption
  • Cleans the soil
  • Purifies the air
  • Reduces pollution

Veganism Protects The Animals

It’s obvious that not eating meat products or using animal-based materials benefits and protects animals. But the impact of veganism goes well beyond not slaughtering animals for meat and other items.

Animal agriculture impacts the world’s biodiversity. As wildland is used to grow crops for livestock feed, an increasing number of native species are threatened. This includes bears, monkeys, elephants, wolves, and even parrots.

A vegan lifestyle helps to prevent species extinction by reducing (or eliminating) the need for feed crops and livestock. By going vegan, we can preserve species and their natural habitats.

Impact to Ocean Dwellers

Overfishing and water pollution has caused disastrous imbalances for ocean biodiversity. Not only has the worldwide fish population massively decreased, but the natural characteristics of the remaining fish have also changed.

These impacts put the ocean food chain at risk.

A vegan lifestyle enables the fish population to rebalance and for the ocean’s ecosystem to get back to functioning the way that nature intended.
